BIO

Led by Argentine songwriter and double bassist Marcos Cifuentes, MARIMBISMOS brings together song, improvisation and timbral exploration through an unusual instrumental setting: marimba, double bass, percussion and voices. The music moves between songs and instrumental passages, from rhythmic intensity to intimacy.

❇️ MARCOS CIFUENTES, Double bassist and composer. Recognized as an Outstanding Cultural Figure in his hometown of Berazategui. He was a founding member of the Teatro Colón Academic Orchestra. His debut album, Canciones de Contrabando, was selected as Album of the Month by Buenos Aires’ Club del Disco. He has collaborated with artists such as Palo Pandolfo and Marta Gómez. He currently serves as principal double bassist of the Buenos Aires City Symphonic Band.

❇️ CESAR MARTININI, Prominent Buenos Aires marimbist. A recipient of a grant from Argentina’s National Arts Fund (FNA), he has published two books: Marimba Meets Gardel and New Tango Arrangements for Marimba and Vibraphone Duo. He was a member of Argentina’s National Symphony Orchestra and currently performs with the Buenos Aires City Tango Orchestra.. 

❇️ MAURO CARACOTCHE Originally from Trenque Lauquen, he studied at the Manuel de Falla Conservatory and EMPA (School of Popular Music of Avellaneda) and has an extensive background in Argentine folk music. He has worked with renowned artists including María Creuza, Ángela Irene and Santaires, among others. He is currently the drummer of the Buenos Aires City Tango Orchestra.

❇️ MARIMBISMOS was selected for the showcases at Mjazz Chile 2026, the Ibero-American Market for Jazz and Related Musics, held May 13–15, 2026, in Santiago, Chile. The group has performed at the 34th Berazategui Jazz Festival (Buenos Aires) and the Marimbatuc 2025 Festival (Tucumán), among others.
