Maria Cangiano

Maria Cangiano
Tango Jazz

María Cangiano is fusion, expression, eccentricity and musical exquisiteness condensed in a voice that shows all the world sounds in her mezzo soprano register.

“Cangiano is an expressive singer with extraordinary range and power: you wouldn’t expect a contralto to be able to deliver such stinging high notes.” New York Music Daily.

With an extensive professional career in New York, Maria Cangiano is one of the most outstanding female voices of the tango-jazz in the US. She carries in her journey a deep influence of black music and latin folk, both of them mixed with improvisation and impressive stage presence, this last one built in her broad trajectory inside alternative Opera companies of New York such as Amato, Dicapo and Regina Opera.
Today in her new musical work,  Renacere: Piazzolla x Cangiano, she tackles with mastery and  theatricality the genre of Tango Jazz, rebuilding the risk, the versatility and the expression of A.Piazzolla mythical legacy, becoming and exceptional representative of the genre thanks to her vast vocal, creative and theatrical resources and developing unique versions of unknown or forgotten Piazzolla songs.

She has shared stage with great musicians of the current tango-jazz: winners of Latin Grammy’s Fernando Otero and Emilio Solla; Octavio Brunetti; Raúl Jaurena; the double bassist Pedro Guiraudo; the Japanese violinist Machiko Osawa; Quintino Cinalli (percussionist of Dino Salauzzi, Esperanza Spalding) and Quique Sinesi among others.
